First up, from an Italian source, are rumours that the Vespa PX may not be completely killed by Euro 4 as we reported here. Piaggio were apparently planning to show a new 4-stroke version of their venerable Vespa. According to the story, this was due to appear not. Click individual pages below for a 8'x12' 200 DPI page. These are from the original Vespa parts book for service centers & shops. Files sizes are about 400K for a color page and 200K for a black and white. This manual is in Italian, English, French, German, and Spanish. The whole book is here with an addendum for the PX125E and PX200E. Hand Book HAYNES Vespa P /PX125, 150 & 200 (incl. LML Star 2T) '78-'14 service & repair manual English, 138 p. This is the only manual with special chapters about t.
very badly put together.
In the uk they also decided to drop some of there more loyal dealers. New marketing strategy was to have Vespa lined up against other makes. If you dont stock other makes, your dropped, regardless of how many years you have sold vespa.
The cdi, I have traced the number on the internal chip. Its a mini computer!! with ram and memory storage.
The stator looks like an automatic stator, I think it has 8 or 10 identical windings. Obviously the flywheel magnets have been changed to match.

There is some sort of timing programme stored on the chip, when mine failed, the timing, without cdi interval was at around 50 degrees BTDC 'ish.
My guess its cost, the cdi is stamped L R, The R is reversed. I traced this to China.
Again Piaggio have stuffed there loyal UK customers. I dont agree that if it wasnt for piaggio there would be no classic scooter. LML has come a long way. For the same money I have spent on this scoot, I could have had a mild custom LML 125, Dont get me wrong, i have a nice looking and now reliable scooter, but I will never on point of principal buy Piaggio anything ever again.
Just to be super clear, my money will not filter back to piaggio, so anything new from a dealer with the piaggio/vespa mark on, is a no no.
I feel for the dealers, they all stocked LML when vespa pulled out of the market, the dealers then dropped LML, and now suffer a poor relationship with piaggio.
Best thing about this thread is making peeps aware of the difference between the 2011 px and the earlier ones.
They are not the same. I really do feel when the years have gone by, and the warranty runs out, there is going to be a flood of unhappy scooter owners with faulty ignitions.
I do apologise for earlier rant, I really am peeved at vespa, I stayed brand loyal, but received a shoddy scooter, and poorly trained, informed dealers. Again I dont blame the dealers, if its a PX then why would you expect any changes. It should be called something different, PY for instance!!
